About the CAMS New York Hep B Free Clinician Honor Roll

The Chinese American Medical Society’s CAMS New York Hep B Free Clinician’s Honor Roll sponsored by Wells Fargo is a project that acknowledges primary care clinicians who have signed a pledge to screen patients at risk for chronic Hepatitis B infections in accordance with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. The goal is to have 80% of all CAMS’ primary care providers agree to the pledge.

Establishing the CAMS Hep B Free Clinician Honor Roll follows the release in 2008 of new national screening guidelines for Hepatitis B established by CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. The first Hep B Free Clinician's Honor Roll was launched in the fall of 2009 in San Francisco, California to promote the growing number of doctor’s offices that were testing patients and working to prevent liver cancer and Hepatitis B disease.  The program was started by the AsianWeek Foundation and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

In summer 2011 the SF Hep B Free Clinician Honor Roll was chosen to be a health indicator on San Francisco’s new citywide health report card, called Community Vital Signs. The goal of the health indicator is to get 90% of all San Francisco practicing primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants to sign the pledge form. San Francisco has a primary care physician pool of approximately 1,500 providers.

With great excitement, the Chinese American Medical Society will utilize this model and launch a clinician honor roll program in April 2012.  CAMS will outreach to New York City members and encourage clinicians to screen their Asian and Pacific Islander patients for hepatitis B.  The two-year goal is to get 80% of the primary care physicians to sign the pledge form.

The CAMS Hep B Free Clinician’s Honor Roll is supported with a grant from Wells Fargo Bank and being operated by CAMS. Partners with CAMS include the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, the AsianWeek Foundation, the Chinese American Independent Practice Association, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, American Cancer Society Eastern Division Asian Initiatives & New York University B Free CEED.
