CAMS President received NECO's Ellis Island Medal of Honor: Dr. Wilson Ko, President of Chinese American Medical Society, was given this year's Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award. This is a very prestigious honor which has been bestowed to many distinguished national figures in the past. Dr. Ko immigrated to the US when he was 12 years old from Hong Kong. His father, after living through two wars, the cultural revolution and the perilous escape to Hong Kong, had built a comfortable and successful life in Hong Kong. But he left everything behind and brought his family to America when his application for immigration was granted. Dr. Ko has since become a successful cardiac surgeon, which would made his father very proud. Dr. Ko believes that this award highlights the great opportunities that all Americans have at their disposal. He felt that America is great because we are the people who are successful and gained world respect by not doing great for ourselves but by doing great for others. |
