Cancer is the leading cause of death and shows a distinctive epidemiology in Chinese Americans. New cancer treatments such as targeted therapy, precision medicine, immunotherapy and IMRT have generated intensive media attention, but their implications for how primary care practitioners practice medicine are often overlooked, including for Chinese American health care providers and Chinese American patients. To address this educational gap, our annual symposium on Cancer Care in Chinese Americans will use a combination of lectures, workshops and research presentations participants will be able to apply guidelines for cancer screening and prevention, perform diagnosis of commonly encountered cancers, identify treatment options for commonly encountered cancers, describe pathophysiology and principles of cancer treatments and identify aspects of the diagnosis and management of cancer specific to Chinese patients.
